MATTS history and training course graduates

Since its founding in 2001, the Manchester Alexander Technique Training School (MATTS) has developed as a centre for the training and continuing development of Alexander Technique teachers.

The school was established in 2001 by Malcolm Williamson, with Peter Bloch assisting in its formation. In 2017, Peter became director of the course, with Malcolm continuing to teach as Director Emeritus.

MATTS currently has 16 trainee teachers (May 2026) and has graduated 43 teachers. Most graduates continue to teach, many in established professional practices.

The work of the school is based on long-standing principles of Alexander Technique teaching, combined with ongoing engagement with contemporary research and professional practice.

MATTS continues to support both the training of new teachers and the ongoing development of the wider Alexander Technique community.
