Individual Alexander Technique lessons

Individual study with experienced teachers

MATTS offers individual Alexander Technique lessons with experienced STAT-registered teachers connected with the school.

Private lessons provide an opportunity for focused one-to-one work tailored to individual interests and circumstances.

Originally developed as a method for improving skilled performance, the Alexander Technique is now widely used in connection with pain, posture, movement, performance, stress and general wellbeing, particularly in situations where how people use themselves affects how well they function.

Research studies have shown lessons to be helpful for a number of long-term musculoskeletal conditions.

Some people attend for individual lessons, while others gradually become involved in the wider practical life of the school through classes, workshops and group work.

Many Alexander Technique teachers in Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas are contributors at MATTS. Some of these teachers are available for individual lessons at our main site in Wilmslow.

You can find details of teachers connected with the school on the Training Team page.

A full searchable directory of STAT-registered Alexander Technique teachers is available through the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT).

Supervised low-cost lessons

Very low-cost supervised lessons with trainee teachers close to qualification are often available both at the school and elsewhere in the wider area. These lessons take place under the supervision of senior teachers and the trainee teachers are fully insured.

Many people find supervised trainee lessons an excellent and affordable way to begin studying the Alexander Technique or to continue practical work alongside lessons with more experienced teachers.

Lessons for performers

Several teachers connected with MATTS have extensive experience working with musicians, as well as with actors, dancers and other performers, including conservatoire students and professional artists.

Many performers value the opportunity to combine individual lessons with participation in the broader practical environment of the school.
